Kennesaw State Athletics Suspends Activities Indefinitely

3/12/2020 3:16:00 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. – As a result of today's announcements from the NCAA and ASUN Conference, Kennesaw State University athletics has suspended all competition indefinitely, effective immediately.

Statement from the NCAA
Today, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men's and women's 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.

Statement from ASUN Commissioner Ted Gumbart
In support of the global community's effort to limit transmission of the COVID-19 virus, and to exercise wise precaution in protecting the health of the entire ASUN family, the ASUN Conference joins the fight by suspending all intercollegiate competition, effective immediately, through at least April 5. Our Presidents' Council will address the question of canceling all spring competition tomorrow, March 13, and we will update this statement as needed following the conclusion of that 3:00 p.m. ET session.

As a university, Kennesaw State is closely following and implementing coronavirus (COVID-19) guidelines as prescribed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Georgia Department of Public Health. KSU will continue to monitor and follow the guidance provided by the University System of Georgia, CDC and GA Department of Public Health.
