KENNESAW, Ga. - In an up and down contest that consisted of six errors between the two teams, Kennesaw State fell just short against the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 7-5, Wednesday night at Stillwell Stadium.Â
Â
KSU spent almost the entire game playing catch-up, giving up four runs in the second inning. The Owls quickly put a dent in that deficit by notching two runs of their own in the second. Their first run of the game came off a sacrifice fly by
Joseph Gossett which scored
Terence Norman. Their second run of the inning was scored by
Garrett Hodges which was made possible by
Tyler Simon distracting the defense on his stolen base.
Â
After surrendering another run in the third, the Owls put up two more runs to cut further into the Bobcats' lead. The first run of the inning capitalized on an error by the Bobcats second baseman which got
Nick Hassan on-base and scored
Alex Carballo. Two at-bats later, Norman hit into a double play, but
Nick Colina was able to cross the plate.
Â
The Owls would go on to tie the game up in the bottom of the fifth off a wild pitch that scored Hassan. The game stayed knotted up all the way into the eighth inning, when the Bobcats plated two runners that eventually won them the game.
Â
In his first start of the season,
Brayden Eidson lasted 5.0 innings while giving up eight hits and two earned runs.
Â
Garrett Hodges was a force at the plate going 2-for-4 and scoring a run. Hodges is now batting .344 on the season with a slugging percentage of .456.
Â
The Owls next take the field on Friday for the first game of their weekend series against Toledo at 4 p.m. at Stillwell Stadium.
