The Owls Win on Carballo's Walk-Off Double

Box Score (PDF) | Box Score (XML)

KENNESAW, Ga.
– The Owls won a thriller over Pennsylvania, winning 6-5 on a two RBI walk-off in the bottom of the ninth by Alex Carballo. With the win, KSU took the series over Penn and moved to 6-5 on the season.

With KSU down two heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Owls needed a big offensive performance to emerge victorious and that is just what they got. Four of Kennesaw's eight hits came in the ninth inning with the first run of the inning crossing the plate off a Darius Diaz single through the left side. With the Owls down 5-4 and the bases loaded, Carballo stepped up to the plate and hit a bomb to right center field to bring both Nick Colina and Marcerio Allen home to seal the victory for KSU.

Monty Horn (2-0) earned the win, coming into the game in the ninth inning and making quick work of the only two batters he faced. Horn came in for relief of Nathan Dupree, who had just surrendered the lead in the top of the ninth inning off a two-run homer by Eduardo Malinowski.

After giving up an early run in the first inning, the Owls scored their first run of the game in the third inning off a single through the right side by Garrett Hodges that brought Tyler Simon home. Hodges had an excellent day going 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and a run scored.

Nick Hassan gave KSU its first lead of the game with a single through the left side that brought Justin Russell home and gave the Owls a 2-1 lead in the third.

Gage Vailes drew the start for the Owls lasting 3.2 innings in which he gave up five hits and only one earned run. Colby Williams came in for relief of Vailes and held the Quakers scoreless and hitless for 3.2 innings before giving up two runs in the eighth.

The Owls next take the mound against Jacksonville State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Jacksonville, Alabama.
