CONWAY, S.C. - After coming out of the gate hot in the first inning, the Kennesaw State baseball team was unable to hold on to the lead, falling 13-5 to Coastal Carolina Sunday afternoon at Springs Brooks Stadium.

Despite a 3-0 first-inning lead for the Owls, Coastal Carolina (3-3) was able to answer quickly, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first and eventually taking a 6-3 lead in the fifth inning.

Kennesaw State (4-3) did most of their damage at the plate in the first inning, putting up three quick runs.
Tyler Tolve,
Justin Russell, and
Nick Hassan each recorded RBI's as the Owls sent seven batter to the plate in the opening frame.

Kennesaw State made a late push in the top of the eighth inning when Russell brought two runs home with a one-out single to right field. Russell finished the day with three RBI's and a run scored.

Jared Rine drew the start for the Owls and went 2.2 innings, while
Colby Williams (1-1) suffered his first loss of the year in relief. Nick Parker earned the win for Coastal Carolina, which marked his first win of the year.

The Owls return to action Tuesday evening in Athens, facing off against UGA with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. at Foley Field.
