KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State Owls rallied to defeat the Rhode Island Rams to begin the Dr. Bobbie Bailey Memorial Tournament Friday, Feb. 21 at Bailey Park.

The Rams (4-6) scored three in the top of the first off Abby Deane to take an early lead.

However, KSU (9-1) quickly answered. In the bottom of the first, Brea Dickey had an RBI single, scoring Hannah Thomason for the Owls.

Lexi Solorzano gave the hosts the lead for good on a three-run home run to deep center. Shortstop Faith Alexander produced the fourth run of the frame with an RBI single through the left side for a 5-3 lead.

Lyndsey Kyte found a groove and held the Rams to no runs in the fourth inning, while the offense capitalized on her pitching with an RBI single from Katie Greep.

Thomason and Christen Florence each had RBI at-bats to finish the scoring in the fifth.

Kyte moved to 3-0 with no hits over 4.1 innings. She totaled five strikeouts and had four walks. Melanie Bennet tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with a couple of hits and three strikeouts.

KSU continues action Saturday against Rhode Island (12:30 p.m.) and Marshall (5:30 p.m.).

The previous scheduled Friday finale against Marshall has been postponed until Sunday at 12:30. The Owls will finish the tournament against ETSU in a doubleheader after the contest against the Thundering Herd.
