KENNESAW, Ga. –
Gillian Piccolino ended the night with 11 points and 10 rebounds, as the Kennesaw State women's basketball team fell to No. 22 Florida Gulf Coast 89-64 Monday evening in the Convocation Center.
Â
"Give FGCU credit tonight. They shot the ball really well and came into the game prepared. They did not shoot well against Stetson in their last game and a good team is not going to shoot that poorly two games in a row," said Head Coach
Agnus Berenato. "Gillian (Piccolino) played well again and I believe that she is a strong candidate for freshman of the week in the conference. I thought that she had some spots of brilliance tonight."
Â
Gabi Legister ended the night with 10 points, a career-high for the freshman from Bridgeville, Pa.
Alexis Poole  was impressive on the offensive side of the court, scoring 14 points, while
Breanna Hoover was four-of-six from the three-point line.
Â
Alexis Poole scored the Owls' first basket from open play to cut the quick FGCU lead to  8-3. After the Eagles made a 3-point shot and a layup, the two teams entered the first media time-out 13-3. FGCU went on a 15-0 run that was ended by a jumper from
Peyton Lewis. The first quarter ended with the Eagles leading 30-18.
Â
Poole would kick off KSU's second quarter with two jumpers from the paint to cut the Owls' deficit to 10 points. Piccolino was efficient around the rim all night, and ended the first half with six rebounds. Hoover would sink a three-pointer to cut the lead to 10 at 37-27 with seven minutes to go, but the half ended 54-31 in favor of FGCU.
Â
The Owls came out of the locker room ready to play, with Poole shooting a jumper and
Carlotta Gianolla netting a layup. Hoover would make another trifecta to trim the FGCU lead to 68-46. The teams entered the final quarter with FGCU leading 74-48.
Â
Piccolino continued her solid play into the fourth quarter, and would score a layup and two free throws to make it 82-54. Hoover would make two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles continued to build on their large lead.
