KSU Welcomes Local Students For Education Day Versus Shorter

KENNESAW, Ga.- After an exciting Pink Day at the KSU Convocation Center, KSU women's basketball hosts Shorter for Education Day on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Top Storylines

• Kennesaw State is looking for back-to-back wins after beating Lipscomb 88-60 on Pink Day. 

• Gillian Piccolino led the charge against the Bisons, as she turned in her best-career performance. She ended with 25 points, six rebounds and a pair of assists.

• The Owls shot the ball well against the Bisons, ending shooting 50 percent. It was tied for the second best shooting night against ASUN competition this season. 

• KSU is looking for its second win against Division II foes this season, after beating Middle Georgia State 88-49 on New Year's Eve.

• Kennesaw State has taken advantage of its trips to the free-throw line this season. The Owls rank 12th in the country from the line, shooting at a 77.6 percent clip. 

• Alexis Poole has been incredible so far this season for Kennesaw State. She ranks 19th in the country in field goal percentage, draining 57.8 percent of her shots.

• One of the Owls' keys to victory this season has been rebounding the basketball. When Kennesaw State out-rebounds opponents, the Owls are 9-1 so far this season. When KSU is outrebounded, the Owls are 1-10.

• Amani Johnson has displayed incredible vision this season for the Owls. The sophomore ranks second in the ASUN in assists per game (3.7), which ranks 166th in the country. 

• A trend that continues from last season, Amani Johnson rarely gets taken off the court. This season, she is averaging 38:39 minutes per contest, which ranks sixth in the country.

• During the summer, it was announced that the Owls were ranked No. 20 in the WBCA Academic rankings. The Owls were the sole program in the ASUN to receive the honor as well as the only program in the state of Georgia to be recognized on the list. KSU ended the season with a 3.54 GPA.

• This past fall, the team achieved a GPA of 3.37, as all ten student-athletes were above a 3.0 GPA with four student-athletes on the Dean's list

Noting Shorter

• Shorter comes into the contest on a seven-game losing streak.

• The Hawks compete in the Gulf South conference and a member of NCAA Division II.

• Jasmine Gaines leads the squad in scoring, averaging 22.1 points per game. She also is tough on the glass, pulling down 6.8 rebounds per contest.

• Head Coach Jared Hughes is in his first season at the helm after a stint at Rome High School.
