KENNESAW, Ga. – The ASUN Conference has named the 2018-19 season as the best in Kennesaw State women's golf program history. The year proved as another pillar in the dynasty of success by setting a new standard of dominance.
KSU finished in the top five eight times, nine top-10 finishes, won a program-best three events and set a new program record with a 294.17 scoring average. The Owls won the program's fourth ASUN Championship title with a 910 (+34) while Medy Thavong earned medalist honors with a 223 (+4) in Braselton, Ga.
KSU stockpiled the trophy case with numerous honors. Clara Aveling was named both ASUN Women's Golfer of the Year and ASUN first team all-conference. Rhyll Brinsmead was named Coach of the Year for the fifth time. Chloe Thornton was tabbed Freshman of the Year, first team all-conference and landed a spot on the all-freshmen team. Roanne Tomlinson collected first team all-conference honors, and Thavong earned a spot on all-conference second team and all-academic team.
The Owls, ranked 35th nationally, participated in the NCAA Division 1 Auburn Regional for the program's fourth Regional appearance. It marked KSU's first back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Regionals, and the Owls' No. 9 seed was the highest in program history.
The Owls earned the automatic bid with a 19-over par total of 311 to finish the ASUN championship at 34-over par 911. KSU finished 13 shots clear of second-place Florida Gulf Coast.
