Owls Capture Road ASUN Victory At Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Behind Alexis Poole's career night, Kennesaw State came from behind to capture its first ASUN victory of the season against Lipscomb, 74-66.

" I think that Coach Head had a great scout and our ladies executed what we practiced," said Head Coach Agnus Berenato. "Alexis Poole was terrific on the glass and was perfect from the field. Carlotta Gianolla had great leadership skills while also contributing a double-double. It was huge for Breanna Hoover to knock down five 3-pointers, when it is an area we have struggled with. It helped with our inside-out game."

It was back-and-forth for the first three quarters before Kennesaw State put on a clinic in the fourth quarter to pull ahead and secure the win.

After the first quarter, the game was tied at 13 points apiece. The Owls held the largest advantage at four points, but the Bisons evened the score with under a minute to go. The Owls found themselves down nine in the second quarter, but closed the gap to seven at the break.

The game continued to stay competitive in the third quarter as both teams traded buckets. With 32 seconds to go in the frame, Lipscomb took its largest lead of the game, 56-46, after a corner three-pointer.

The Owls completely dominated the fourth quarter from the start to the final buzzer. A 16-2 run in the fourth quarter aided the Owls win as Kennesaw State went on to capture the 74-66 victory.

"Defensively, we turned in up in the fourth quarter. They had great intensity and stayed with the game plan to maintain the lead. It was a tremendous road win as we were able to finish out a game in the fourth quarter. The ladies are working hard and trying to establish a new chemistry so I am very happy for the team," said Berenato.

Poole ended the night with 27 points while going 10-for-10 with from the floor to tie the program record for field goal percentage in a single game.

Kennesaw State looks to put together back-to-back wins Jan. 18 at NJIT.
