Owls Collect USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

KENNESAW, Ga. -
 The Kennesaw State women's track and field team was named a USTFCCCA 2019 Division I All-Academic Team for carrying a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
  
The team finished third at the ASUN Indoor Championships and second at the ASUN Outdoor Championships. 

Individually, Jordan Gray and Julija Tarvide of the women's team and Jordan Hewing from the men's team earned USTFCCCA 2019 Division I All-Academic honors.
 
Gray recently graduated with a degree in integrative studies. She finished with a 3.49 GPA. She finished seventh in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships. Gray was named MVP of the ASUN Championship after scoring 31 points. Her 31 points were the most scored by any athlete at the ASUN Championships. She won the gold medal in the long jump with a leap of 6.20m (20'4.25"). That jump ranked No.1 in the ASUN and 32nd in the NCAA East Region this season. The redshirt-senior grabbed a silver medal in the shot put 14.65m (48'0.75"). That toss set a new school record. She finished second in javelin with a throw of 39.07m (128' 2") and was fourth in the pole vault clearing 3.27m (10'8.75"). She also was named Most Valuable Field Performer of the ASUN Championship. She was sixth in the discus with a career-best toss of 40.98m (134' 5"). She won the heptathlon at the Virginia Challenge with a career-best 5681 points. That total was good for fifth in the NCAA East Region and 11th in the NCAA this season. She took the gold medal in the pentathlon with an ASUN Championship and facility record 4202 points. She became the first female in conference history ever to win an event four times. She won the 60m hurdles (8.74), shot put with a toss of 14.33m (47'0.25") and the long jump with a leap of 5.90m (19'7.5"). She would take home the silver medal in the shot put with a career-best toss of 14.66m (48'1.25"). That throw set a new school record in the event. She was also second in the pole vault and was fifth in the high jump at the ASUN Championship. She won the long jump at the ASUN Championship leaping 6.05m (19'1.25"). The Ball Ground, Ga. native scored 38 points and was named Women's MVP and Most Outstanding Field Performer of the ASUN Championship. She finished second in the pentathlon with a career-best 4412 points and 14th at NCAA Indoor Championships in the long jump. She finished the season ranked 14th in the world and No. 3 in the United States in the pentathlon. This is Gray's fourth time on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team.
 
Tarvide owns a 3.76 GPA while majoring in political science. The Daugavpils, Latvia native competed in the high jump eight times during the outdoor season and only finished worse than fourth one time. She won the high jump at the Don McGarey Invitational and the ASUN Championship. She took 19th at the NCAA East Regional.  Tarvide competed in five indoor meets. She finished first or second in the high jump in four of those five meets. The junior won the high jump at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational clearing a career-best and 1.76m (5'9.25") to set a new school record. She won the high jump at the Liberty Kickoff with a clearance of 1.70m (5'7") and collected the gold medal at the ASUN Championship with a clearance of 1.75m (5'8.75"). This is Tarvide's second appearance on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.

Hewing owns a 3.64 GPA while majoring in information systems. He scored the second-most points of any male in the ASUN Championship with 22.5. The Marietta, Ga. native won the gold medal in the 100m with a career-best time of 10.50. That time was good for fifth fastest in program history and ranked tops in the ASUN this season. He finished second in the 200m with a time of 21.19 and ran a leg on the Owls 4x100m that won the gold medal in 40.03 seconds that set an ASUN Championship record. He also a leg of the Owls 4x400m relay team that finished second in 3:13.53. He collected a win in the 4x100m relay and 200 at the Don McGarey Invitational. He closed out his season running a leg on the Owls 4x100m relay team that posted a time of 40.01 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships East Regional. That time established a new school record. He and the Owls 4x100m relay team finished 19th at NCAA East Regionals. This is his first time on the USTFCCA All-Academic Team.
