AUSTIN, Texas –
Daniel Haugh became KSU's first national champion in the Division I era on Wednesday at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Haugh won the hammer throw with a toss of 74.63m (244'10"). The win also makes him first athlete from the ASUN Conference to win an NCAA Championship.

"The only thought that comes to mind is thankful," Haugh said. "Thankful to the Lord who makes this possible. Thankful for my parents, my coaching staff, my friends and family who believe in me and push me day in and day out. None of this would be possible without the community that I am surrounded with on a daily basis."

The Marietta, Ga. native led after two throws with a toss of 72.55m (238'0). He would slide into fourth place headed into the finals where he landed the winning toss on his fifth throw of the day. He became the first Owl to earn Outdoor First Team All-America honors on the men's side in program history.

"Proud seems like an understatement when I think about what Daniel Haugh did today," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cale McDaniel said. "Daniel is the first Division I National Champion at KSU and that is something we can all be proud of! I cannot say enough about Coach Mike Judge and what his help has meant to our program. We are building something special here and Daniel Haugh just showed us the way."

Junior Paris Williams sits in 18th place with 3703 points after the opening five events of the decathlon. He finished 11th in both the 100m with a time of 11.08 and the high jump clearing 1.92m (6'3.5"). He finished the day posting a time of 50.04 in the 400m.

Williams will conclude action in the decathlon on Thursday, June 6 at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
