5/8/2019 4:10:00 PM

KENNESAW, Ga. – Director of Tennis Matt Emery announced the addition of Paola Cortez Vargas who will join the Owls in the fall of 2019 after inking a National Letter of Intent.

"We are very excited about Paola joining our family here at KSU," Emery said. She brings with her a wealth of experience competing on big stages. There are not many players out there who come into college with the maturity and professionalism that Paola has which is why we see her having an immediate impact on our women's program. The other thing we loved about Paola is how she embraced the challenge of helping take our program to the next level. Having been very successful in Fed Cup, she understands the importance of maximizing not just her own potential, but the potential of her teammates as well.  We can't wait to get her here on campus and get started!"

Cortez Vargas hails from Cochabamba, Bolivia. She currently owns a 10.52 Universal Tennis Rating. She has ranked as high as No. 415 in the ITF World Junior Singles rankings and collected eight career singles and doubles titles in ITF junior action. She played for Bolivia in the WTA Fed Cup and won her singles match against Peru. Recently, Cortez Vargas was nominated by the Bolivian Tennis Foundation to compete for her country in the Pan-American Games.
