KENNESAW, Ga.- After an outstanding performance last week against Georgia Southern and Jacksonville,
Justin Russell has been named the ASUN Player of the Week, the league announced today (May 20).
In four games, Russell hit at a .389 clip with four home runs, nine RBI and ended with a 1.056 slugging percentage.
In the bottom of the ninth inning against Georgia Southern, the Marietta, Ga., native belted a three-run home run to tie the game and force the game into extra innings, where the Owls eventually won, 11-10.
In Friday's 10-0 win over Jacksonville, Russell blasted a pair of two-run home runs.
He was also flawless in the field, recording a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 33 putouts and two assists.
A force at the plate all season, the junior finished the regular season leading the ASUN in home runs (12), slugging percentage (.609), and was second in RBI in ASUN play (25).
The award marks the second of its kind for an Owls baseball player this season as
Jake Franklin captured the accolade on May 9. This award marks the first of Russell's career.
