Haugh and Akindele Garner ASUN Championship Awards

KENNESAW, Ga. -
The men's track and field team collected a duo of postseason awards after finishing runner-up ASUN Outdoor Championship over the weekend the conference announced Friday. Daniel Haugh collected the ASUN Most Outstanding Field Performer and DJ Akindele was named Most Outstanding Freshman Performer.

Haugh won the hammer throw with a toss of 75.03m (246'2"). His throw broke the facility record, school record and the ASUN Championship record. It was the top throw in the ASUN this season by 18.03m or 59 feet. It also ranked No.3 in the NCAA and the NCAA East Region. He grabbed the gold medal in the discus with a toss of 56.77m (246'2"). That throw broke the school and ASUN Championship record. The throw ranked first in the ASUN this season by 2.22m or 7'3". It ranked No.11 in the NCAA East Region and No.33 in the NCAA this season. Haugh is the seventh Owl to receive this award since 2008. 
 
Akindele was the top scorer among freshmen men at the ASUN Championship scoring 14.5 points for the Owls. He won the bronze medal in the 110m hurdles (14.72) and the 400m hurdles with a career-best time of 53.73. The Stockbridge, Ga. native ran a leg on the on the Owls gold medal winning 4x100m relay team that set a school and meet record with a time of 40.03.Akindele is the sixth Owl to collect this award since 2010.
 
Haugh, Akindele and nine other Owls will get the opportunity to compete in the preliminary rounds of the NCAA Championships. The preliminary rounds are May 23-25 at the University of North Florida for the NCAA East Region.
