Owls Finish Second at ASUN Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
 – The Kennesaw State women's team wrapped up action at the ASUN Conference Championship on Saturday, May 11 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.

Team Scoring
KSU took second place scoring 170 points while Liberty won the event scoring 260.5 points. The Owls were 29 points ahead of Jacksonville who finished third
 

Gray Named ASUN Most Valuable Performer
Jordan Gray was awarded Most Valuable Performer of the meet after scoring 31 points for the Owls in the two-day meet. Gray won the long jump on Friday. She was also second in the shot put and javelin and scored points in discus and pole vault.

 
Heptathlon (Through seven events)
  • Jessica Watkins secured the silver medal with 4710 points. She ran a personal-best time of 2:25.95 in the 800m to finish second.
 

Medal Winners
  • Julija Tarvide won the gold medal in the high jump after clearing 1.72m (5'7.75"). She became the Owls first two-time winner in the event. Five different Owls have won the high jump since 2012. Aweng Mawien got over the bar at 1.62m (5'3.75") and collected the bronze medal.
  • Jordan Gray earned a silver medal in the javelin with a toss of 39.07m (128'2").
  • On her final throw of the event, Bryana Scott won the gold medal in the discus with a toss of 43.69m (143'4").
  • Brenda Ayuk grabbed a runner-up finish in the 1500m in a time of 4:39.20.
  • Jirah Simpkins posted a time of 14.01 to finish second in the 100m hurdles.
  • Sarah Hendrick ran a time of 2:06.80 to finish second in the 800m. That time was the second fastest in program history and set a new meet record.
  • Katie Meyer posted a season-best time of 17:34.72 to finish third in the 5k.

NEXT UP
 Athletes that are in the top 48 in the East Region in an event will get the opportunity to compete in the preliminary rounds for the NCAA Championships. The preliminary rounds are May 23-25 at the University of North Florida for the NCAA East Region.
