Owls Soar to Runner-Up Finish at ASUN Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
 – The Kennesaw State men's team concluded action at the ASUN Conference Outdoor Track Championships on Saturday, May 11 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.

Team Scoring
The Owls battled back-and-forth against Liberty with the two teams exchanging the overall lead during the afternoon. At the end, Liberty narrowly escaped with the conference title edging KSU 241-195. The Owls finished 108 of points ahead of North Florida who captured third place.

 
Williams Named ASUN Most Valuable Performer
Paris Williams was named Most Valuable Performer of the meet after collecting 23 points for the Owls in the two-day meet. Williams won the gold medal in the long jump and 110m hurdles and scored in the javelin and 4x400m relay. An Owl has won this award win this award seven times since 2009.
 

School Records
  • Daniel Haugh grabbed the gold medal in the discus with a toss of 56.77m (246'2"). That throw also broke the ASUN Championship record.
  • The Owls 4x100m relay team of Jordan Hewing, Omar Diaz, Aaron Goodwin and DJ Akindele set a school and ASUN Championship record with a time of 40.03 seconds.
 

Medal Winners 
  • Tariq Bradford and Karl Joeaar grabbed the top two places in the triple jump. Bradford leaped a season-best 15.20m (49'0.5") and Joeaar landed a mark of 14.90m (48'10").
  • KSU swept the podium in the 110m hurdles. Paris Williams secured the gold medal in 14.05. Kameron Davis (14.60) and DJ Akindele (14.72) finished second and third.
  • Chase Kennedy finished third in the 1500m in a time of 3:55.71.
  • Jordan Hewing (10.50) and Omar Diaz (10.54) collected the top two spots in the 100m. Hewing ran a season-best time to collect the title. An Owl has won that event every year since 2014.
  • DJ Akindele took home the bronze medal in the 400m hurdles in a time of 53.73.
  • Hewing returned to the track and won the silver medal in the 200m (21.19). Aaron Goodwin finished third in 21.20 seconds.
  • The Owls 4x400m relay team of Jordan Hewing, Aaron Goodwin, Paris Williams and Omar Diaz took second in a season-best time of 3:13.53. That time was the fourth fastest in program history.

NEXT UP
Athletes that are in the top 48 in the East Region in an event will get the opportunity to compete in the preliminary rounds for the NCAA Championships. The preliminary rounds are May 23-25 at the University of North Florida for the NCAA East Region.
