FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Kennesaw State softball team's 2019 season came to a close Friday morning as No. 3 seed FGCU rode an early 2-0 lead to the final inning to down the Owls in the ASUN Tournament.
Â
How it happened:Â The Eagles (29-21) jumped on top in the bottom of the first inning with a lead-off single. After a groundout, FGCU hit back-to-back doubles to bring two runners in to score and take a 2-0 lead.
Â
Brea Dickey looked to get the Owls (26-21) on the board in the third inning with a lead-off double, but she finished the inning stranded at second.
Â
That would prove to be the highlight of the game until the seventh inning when
Christen Florence struck a lead-off single looking to spark a late rally.
Kira Czyrklis eventually drew a walk to put two on with one out, but the Owls could not plate either runner.
Â
Notes: Brea Dickey recorded a double for the second straight game, logging a hit in five of the last six games … KSU has logged a double in nine straight games …
Hailey Andrews finished the game with eight strikeouts to mark her 19th game this year with five or more strikeouts … Andrews has tossed 232 strikeouts this year to rank fourth on the KSU single-season record list and mark the most strikeouts for any Owl pitcher since 2008 … the Owls hit .087 for the game to match their season-low … KSU finishes the season with a 26-29 overall record, its fifth straight season with 25 or more wins.
