JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State softball team could not get its bats going Sunday afternoon as North Florida rode an early lead to a 2-0 victory in the series finale.
Â
How it happened:Â The Ospreys (21-14, 4-5) jumped out in front right away with a leadoff solo homerun from Tiffany Lower to open the bottom of the first inning. UNF added to its lead in the following inning with a single from Rindy Bryant. Bryant would advance to second on a throwing error that would've ended the inning, only to score the unearned run following a single from the next batter.
Â
Down 2-0 after two innings, KSU (22-19, 7-5) could not break through with
Brea Dickey recording the only hit for the Owls until the top of the seventh inning.Â
Â
KSU looked to spark a late rally with
Kira Czyrklis opening the final frame with a single up the middle. After
Katie Greep reached on a fielder's choice,
Jade Lee hit a single up the middle to put two on with one out.
Â
That would be as close as the Owls would get though as a strikeout and fly out ended the game.Â
Â
The Owls finished the game hitting .208 with Lee going a team-best 2-for-3 at the plate.
Â
Notes:Â Jade Lee recorded her 10th game this season with two hits, tying
Maddie Roth for 11 multi-hit games on the year … This was only the fourth time this year the Owls have been held scoreless …
Hailey Andrews finished the game with two strikeouts, five hits allowed and one run earned over her six innings of work.
Â
Up next:Â The Owls return to Bailey Park Wednesday to host Georgia tech in the annual Lexi's Day game Wednesday at 6 p.m.
