Trio of Owls Earn ASUN Athlete of the Week Awards

Kennesaw, Ga.- 
DJ Akindele,  Daniel Haugh and Jordan Gray were named ASUN Outdoor Freshman, Track and Field Players of the Week the conference announced on Wednesday.
 
All three collected the awards based on their strong performances at the Virginia Challenge.
 
DJ Akindele finished third in 110m hurdles in a personal-best time of 13.92.That time ranks no.1 in the ASUn and No. 18 in the NCAA East Region this season. He also ran a leg on the Owls 4x100m relay team that finished fourth in 40.94 seconds. Akindele collected his second ASUN Freshman of the Week honor.
 
Haugh was named ASUN Field Athlete of the Week.  He landed a toss of 74.78m (245'4") to win the hammer throw.  That throw set the school record and established a new facility and Virginia Challenge meet record That throw ranks, No. 1 in the ASUN and  No. 2 in the NCAA this season. Haugh also set a new school record in the discus with a throw of 56.06m (183'11') to finish fifth. That throw ranks No.1 in the ASUN, No. 32 in the NCAA and No. 14 in the NCAA East Region. Haugh has been named ASUN Field Athlete of the Week three times this season.
 
Gray was named ASUN Field Athlete of the Week. The Ball Ground, Ga. native won the heptathlon with a school record 5618 points at the Virginia Challenge. The redshirt-senior picked up a win in the long jump with a leap of 6.01m (19'8.75") and was third in the javelin. She also won the shot put with a toss of 13.96m (45'9.75). Her point total ranks No. 1 in the ASUN and No. 6 in the NCAA this season. This her third career Outdoor Athlete of the Week Award.
 
The Owls will host the Don McGarey Invitational on April 26-27 at the KSU Track and Field Facility. It will be the first home meet in program history.
