BRASELTON, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team wrapped up play at the 2019 ASUN Championship on Tuesday afternoon, finishing fourth at The Legends Course at Chateau Elan.
The Owls finish the season with six top-five finishes, including a runner-up performance and a third place showing. KSU has now finished in the top four of the ASUN Championship in nine consecutive years.
"We had good prep and great attitudes coming into this week and we just never really got it going in the first two rounds and then with Wyatt's injury yesterday it was just kind of the culmination of the spring season for us," said head coach
Bryant Odom. "We hung in there today and Pablo fought hard and finished in the top 10 so we are really proud of him."
The Owls say goodbye to three seniors in
Jake Fendt,
Wyatt Larkin and
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres who combined to play 359 rounds during their collegiate careers.
"Wyatt, Jake and Pablo were on two conference championship teams, made the NCAA Championship and were great student-athletes for Kennesaw State," said Odom. "They are great young men and I'm super proud to have coached them. They will certainly be missed."
No. 14 North Florida led wire-to-wire and won the event by 12 shots, finishing at 6-under, while No. 21 Liberty finished runner-up at 6-over for the championship. Jacksonville (+23) made a late surge on the final day to finish third, and Kennesaw State (+35) took fourth place. FGCU (+40), North Alabama (+43), Lipscomb (+59) and Stetson (+81) rounded out the field.
Torres continued his steady play, shooting even par in the final round to finish T-7th overall at 2-over for the championship. For the second straight day he recorded an eagle, this time coming at the par five 14th hole. Torres played his final seven holes at 2-under and was the only player in the field to record multiple eagles.
Grant Sutliff and
Brady Keran both finished T-20th at 11-over for the tournament, as Sutliff fired a final round 2-over 74 and Keran carded a 3-over 75.
Connor Coffee followed in T-24th place after an 8-over 80 on Tuesday.
Justin Kim started the final round in the No. 5 position, replacing Larkin who withdrew from the competition on Monday with an injury. Kim fired a 10-over 82 to round out the team.
