Thavong Goes Low as Owls Increase Lead After 36 holes at ASUN Championship

BRASELTON, Ga. – The No. 37 Kennesaw State women's golf team increased its lead after the second round of the ASUN Championship on Monday at the Legends Course at Chateau Elan.
 
The Owls posted a 2-under par total of 290 for a two-round total of 599.  KSU leads second-place FGCU by 19 shots.
 
"We are really excited about today," Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We shot 2-under today led by Medy's round of 4-under. The whole team was so consistent. We talked about getting off to a steady easy pace. We did that by taking advantage of some pin placements early and brought it home smoothly. We have a big lead headed into tomorrow and are not going to sit on it. We are going to go out and be aggressive."
 
Medy Thavong carded the low round of the day on Monday. She recorded a 4-under par 69 with four birdies to grab the overall lead. The highlight of her day came at the ninth hole where she chipped in for eagle from 100 yards out. She resides at 1-over par 145.  
 
Clara Aveling recorded a 1-over par 74 sits in second place and with a  4-over par total of 150 for the tournament. The senior rolled in three birdies and 12 pars during her second round.
 
Roanne Tomlinson bounced back from a tough first round to shoot 1-over par 74 in the second round with 13 pars. The senior is in third at 5-over par 151.
 
Chloe Thornton carried over her play from her final nine holes on Sunday into Monday. The freshman posted a 1-over par 74 in the second round. Her 24 pars through two rounds rank third amongst players in the field. She is tied for seventh at 8-over par 154.
 
Charlotte Charrayre shot 73 with three birdies. That was the third-lowest score by any player in the field on Monday. The senior shot 2-under par 34 on her opening nine holes and collected 12 pars.  She is tied for 16th at 14-over par 160.  
 
KSU will tee off at 12:00 p.m. with FGCU and North Florida in the final round of the ASUN Championship at the Legends Course at Chateau Elan.
