Day 1 Results | Round 2 Pairings

BRASELTON, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men's golf team opened the 2019 ASUN Championship with a strong first round on Sunday and sit alone in third place at The Legends Course at Chateau Elan.

Despite tough conditions and uncharacteristically cold weather, the Owls are alone in third place following a 12-over par 300 that featured nine birdies on the back nine to jump into contention. No. 14 North Florida leads the field at 1-over, while No. 21 Liberty is in second place at 9-over and just three strokes ahead of Kennesaw State.

"Today was one of those days where conditions were much tougher than it appeared," said head coach Bryant Odom. "Blustery winds, fast greens and some difficult hole locations made it very challenging to get the ball close. We did a nice job of holding it together after a slow start. I really feel this was a day where scores could get away from the players if they lost a little focus. We did drop some unnecessary shots but overall we are in good condition for the remainder of the tournament. Pablo has been extremely focused in his preparation and he was rewarded with his patience today."

Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres led KSU with his eighth round under par this year, firing a one-under 71 to sit 4th overall. He recorded back-to-back birdies at No. 9 and No. 10 as he made the turn and then rolled in a birdie on 18 to cap his day inside the top five. He led the field in par five scoring on the opening day, shooting 3-under.

Second-team All-ASUN selection Wyatt Larkin is 10th overall after 12 pars and two birdies left him at 3-over for the day, while ASUN All-Freshman selection Grant Sutliff is T-11th at 4-over after recording two birdies in his last six holes.

Connor Coffee and Brady Keran are both T-19th in the field after signing for a 6-over 78. After shooting 5-over on the front side, Coffee rebounded with three birdies on the back nine.

The Owls return to the course on Monday, looking to continue their strong play at The Legends Course at Chateau Elan. KSU will play in the final group with North Florida and Liberty, teeing off at 12-noon. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com or via the Golfstat Live app.
