Owls Set Four School Records on Final Day of Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.
 – The Kennesaw State track and field finished up action at the Virginia Challenge on Saturday at Lannigan Field.  The Owls set four school records and collected many personal-best performances.

Heptathlon Recap
Jordan Gray won the heptathlon with 5618 points. The redshirt-senior picked up a win in the long jump with a leap of 6.01m (19'8.75"). She would take third in the javelin and 800m.  Junior Jessica Watkins finished eighth with 4619 points.

School Records
  • Daniel Haugh landed a toss of 74.78m (245'4") to win the hammer throw.  That throw also established a new facility and Virginia Challenge meet record and ranks No. 2 in the NCAA this season.
  • Haugh also set a new school record in the discus with a throw of 56.06m (183'11') to finish fifth. 
  • Jordan Gray finished with 5618 points in the heptathlon. That total ranks No. 5 in the NCAA this season.
  •  Erica Sergeant set a new school record in the pole vault clearing  4.12m (13'6.25") to finish fourth.

Men's Top Performances
  • DJ Akindele finished third in 110m hurdles in a personal-best time of 13.92.
  • Kameron Davis finished third in the 400m hurdles in a time of 55.37.
  • Chase Kennedy posted a career-best time of 14:42.61 to finish 32nd in the 5K.
  • Chuck McConville landed a personal-best toss of 57.00m (187'0" ) to finish ninth in the hammer throw.
 
Women's Top Performances
  • Corbin McLean finished 10th in the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.73.
  • Sarah Hendrick took 11th in the 800m in a personal-best time of 2:09.61.
  • Julija Tarvide took third in the high jump clearing 1.70m (5'7").

Next Up
The Owls will host the Don McGarey Invitational on April 26-27 at the KSU Track and Field Facility. It will be the first home meet in program history.
