DELAND, Fla. – The Kennesaw State men's tennis team advanced to the ASUN Semifinals with a 4-2 win over Stetson on Thursday, April 18 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
"We were very proud of the boys today," Director of Tennis
Matt Emery said. "It is not easy to beat a very good team twice in a row especially with them being at home. This was a great team effort across the board and Jose came up big for us again at the end. He is such a great competitor and he definitely did not compete like a freshman today. We are playing and competing our best at the right time and we are anxious to go to battle again tomorrow."
The Owls advance to the semifinals of the ASUN Tournament for the third time in program history. KSU reached the semifinals in 2016 and 2018.
The Owls collected the doubles point with a pair of wins.
Gaston Muhammad and
Lucas de Torres Curth beat Antoine Sanchez and Colter DeCoste 6-2.
Bryan Triana and
Jose Galvez collected a 6-2 victory over Coilin MacNamara and Clement Hamel at No. 3.
Bryan Triana got the Owls started in singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Clement Hamel on court two.
Fermin Calvo Barcelo dispatched of Linus Bergevi 7-5, 6-3 over on court one to give the Owls a 3-0 lead. The Hatters answered winning a pair of matches to cut the lead to 3-2. Freshman
Jose Galvez clinched the victory for KSU defeating Christian Mills 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
The Owls will play No. 1 seed FGCU at 11:30 a.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Complex on Friday, April 19 in the ASUN Semifinals.
