ATHENS, Ga. – The No.45 Kennesaw State women's golf team lost to Georgia and Ole Miss in the opening day of match play at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Friday.
The Owls fell 3.5 to 1.5 to UGA and fell 3-0 to Ole Miss. Today marked the first time KSU had participated in a match play portion of an event in program history.
"We had a really great head to head duel with UGA this morning. They came out on top but I'm really pleased with how we played down the stretch and took the matches to the 18th hole," Head Coach
Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We had opportunities to clinch the match but missed some clutch putts. In the afternoon match against Ole Miss, they came out blazing and made some consecutive birdies to get up early. We fought back but lost some lead matches that clinched the win for Ole Miss. For us today was about experience in match play and working on execution. We will go against Louisville tomorrow and expect another great match."
KSU vs Georgia Recap
KSU opened Friday taking on in-state rival Georgia at the Bulldogs home course. KSU fought hard but came up just short.
Chloe Thronton trailed for a large portion of her match. The freshman found herself 3-down after 14 holes and did not let that bother her as she won holes 15, 16 and 17 before both players tied on 18 to halve the match.
Roannne Tomlinson represented the Owls in the next match out. Her match was tied for 12 of the 18 holes that were played. UGA was able to square the match on 17 and would finish halved.
Clara Aveling led for 10 holes of her match before it was halved on the 18th hole.
Medy Thavong (2&1) and
Charlotte Charrayre (3&1) fought hard but fell in their respective matches.

The Owls squared off with Ole Miss in a consolation match on Friday afternoon.
The Rebels won three matches to clinch the victory.

KSU will take on Louisville in the seventh place match on Saturday (Apr.13) at the UGA Golf Course. The Owls and Cardinals will tee off on the 10
th hole between 8:02-8:34 a.m.
