ATHENS, Ga.
- The No. 45 Kennesaw State women's golf team earned its second win of the year on Thursday, finished tied for medalist honors in the stroke play portion of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the UGA Golf Course.

KSU recorded a 2-over par total of 290 to tie Augusta for the victory, marking the second straight year the Owls have won multiple team titles. In 12 seasons as a head coach, Rhyll Brinsmead has captured eight victories, including at least one win in four of the last five years.

The Owls collected key wins over No. 6 Arkansas, No. 12 South Carolina, No. 21 Alabama, No. 36 Ole Miss and No. 39 Georgia, finished a head of six nationally ranked SEC program.

After tying for first, the Owls have earned the No. 2 seed in the match play portion of the Liz Murphey Collegiate, taking on No. 7 seed Georgia in the opening match of the Red Bracket on Friday morning at 8:40 a.m. at the UGA Golf Course.

"Today was huge for our program, to pick up wins over any SEC program is impressive let alone beating all in the field," Brinsmead said. "We knew the format of the event was 18 holes only counting for stroke play, so it was important to attack early and stay aggressive. We got off to a great start and played the last three holes at 8-under par to bring home the win. The rest of the event is match play and it's going to be loads of fun. It is also really exciting to have Chloe win the individual title, she's eagled her 16th and 18th holes to shoot 68. We had a ton of fun playing today and I'm so proud of this team for their play today."

"We will play UGA in the first round of the championship bracket tomorrow. They will have huge home crowd support but I know we've got the tenacity and skill to pull off the victory."

Chloe Thornton tied for co-medalist honors after carding a 4-under 68. The freshman tallied a pair of eagles over her final three holes and led the field in par five scoring at 4-under. She knocked off 14 nationally ranked players as she carded her fifth round in red figures this season.

Reigning ASUN Golfer of the Week, Clara Aveling, posted a 1-over par 73 to tie for seventh. The redshirt-junior's 13 pars tied for fourth most in the field. This was her fourth top-10 finish of the season.

Medy Thavong tied for 15th overall with 2-over par 74. The senior led the field in scoring on the Par 3's at 2-under par. Roanne Tomlinson posted a 3-over par 75 to tie for 23rd and Charlotte Charrayre tied for 56th with a 12-over par total of 84.
