Owls Fall Late to No. 12 Auburn, 4-2

AUBURN, Ala. – The Kennesaw State softball team fell victim to a late inning rally by No. 12 Auburn and suffered a 4-2 setback Wednesday at Jane B. Moore Field.
 
After the Owls (17-18) tied the score with a run in the top of the fourth, the Tigers (29-5) broke the tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth and to their lead with a run in the sixth.
 
Senior Kira Czyrklis and freshman Christen Florence led the offense, collecting two hits apiece and accounting for half of KSU's eight hits.
 
Kennesaw State scored an unearned in the top of the first before Auburn scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. The Owls scored an unearned run in the fifth to tie the score.
 
Senior Hailey Andrews (9-8) started in the circle for KSU and pitched six innings, allowed nine hits, four runs, walked four and struck out eight.
 
Kennesaw State closes out the month of March with an ASUN Conference home series versus Jacksonville beginning Saturday. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. before closing out the weekend with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
 
Prior to Saturday's doubleheader, the softball program will induct four individuals into the Circle of Honor. This year's class of honorees include sisters Jennifer (1995-1998), Kelly (2002-2003) and Lisa Lamb (2004-2005), and longtime Owls softball public address announcer Grant Case.
