PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico
- The No. 37 Kennesaw State women's golf team returned to action in the opening round of the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational on Thursday at the El Tigre Golf and Country Club. KSU sits in fourth place after carding a 13-over par 301 in the opening round. No. 10 Arizona leads the 12-team with a 2-under score of 286.

"Our team performance today was less than impressive," Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We played some average golf at times and made poor decisions but that doesn't define our day. We fought on the back nine and found a way to post a number that keeps us in touch with the leaders. Chloe's performance today, especially her 4-under back nine was highly impressive.  We have 36 holes to show what we are really about. I trust this team to regroup quickly."

Chloe Thornton led the way for the Owls in the first round with a 2-under par 70 and is tied for fourth. After two bogeys in her opening nine holes, the freshman bounced back with four birdies and five pars over her final nine holes of the day.

Medy Thavong recorded a 2-over par 74 and is tied for 16th. The senior rolled in 14 pars during her round.

Charlotte Charrayre posted a 6-over par 78 and is tied for 39th.

Roanne Tomlinson and Clara Aveling are tied for 46th after both shot 7-over par 79.

The Owls return to the course for the second round of the Hawkeye El-Tigre Invitational on Friday, March 22 at 3 p.m. ET.
