KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to post a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Liberty in the ASUN Conference opener for both teams Friday at Bailey Park.
Â
Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Owls (16-13, 1-0) took advantage of two Flames (16-10, 0-1) errors to record the win as they begin defense of their 2018 ASUN Conference title.
Â
With one out,Â
Jessie Mullen reached on an error, advanced to second on an infield out and scored on a single up the middle byÂ
Hannah Thomason, who capped a 4-for-4 day. AfterÂ
Maddie Roth was hit by a pitch, Thomason scored the winning run from second base when pinch-hitterÂ
Sarah Womack reached base on error by the Liberty first baseman.
The Flames broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the fifth before the Owls cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning on Mullen's fourth home run of the season.
Â
The Kennesaw State rally made a winner out ofÂ
Hailey Andrews (8-7), who pitched seven innings, allowed five hits, two runs, did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
Â
The series concludes Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon. Admission to all home softball games is free.
