KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State won its second series opener of 2019 on Friday (March 1) night as the Owls beat UT-Martin, 3-1.
With one out, one runner on base and down to his final strike,
Alex Carballo launched his third homerun of the season over the right field wall to give the Owls their only and final lead of the ballgame, 3-1.
Buckler had another strong performance on the bump for Kennesaw State. Buckler settled in quickly and pitched 7.0 innings, yielding just one run. The hurler struck out five Skyhawks and allowed just five hits and one walk.
UT Martin took the first lead of the contest in the fourth inning with a solo home run. Kennesaw State got its first runner aboard in the bottom of the fourth inning after
Tyler Simon was hit by a pitch.
The Owls left runners on base in the bottom of the fifth inning and seventh innings, but could not push any runs across until the eighth.
Jake McLinskey relieved Buckler in the eighth inning, struck out three batters and earned his first decision of the season.
Three Owls recorded multi-hit games as Carballo,
Jake Franklin and
Terence Norman all recorded more than one hit.
Kennesaw State returns to Stillwell tomorrow (March 1) at 1 p.m. against the Skyhawks for game one of a double-header. The second game will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
