KSU Basketball Hosts NJIT For Pink Day

Game Day Storylines
• Kennesaw State is looking for its first win since Jan. 8 against Jacksonville.
• Today is Pink Day, a special day for KSU athletics and women's basketball. More can be found out on page two of the notes.
• Agnus Berenato welcomes two special guest coaches. One will be Dr. Rhonda Wachsmuth, who serves as Berenato's doctor, and Judy Allen-Hines, who is a breast cancer survivor and professor at KSU.
• Alexis Poole has been dominate in ASUN play this season. So far, the sophomore is averaging 16.2 points per game (3rd in ASUN) and 8.3 rebounds (2nd in ASUN).
• After collecting her 125th career steal against the Jacksonville, Kamiyah Street moved up to fifth place in KSU history in career steals. Currently, she has 126 swipes. 
• Kamiyah Street attempted 27 field goals against NJIT which stands as the KSU 
Division I program record.
• KSU attempted just 11 free throws against UNA, its fewest against an ASUN opponent
• The last time these teams played, Carlotta Gianolla turned in a double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds), while Simina Avram collected 13 rebounds. The Owls had four double-digit scorers, but fell short in Newark, 66-60.
• Alexis Poole had arguably one of the best individual performance of the season against Liberty, as she netted 27 points and collected 15 rebounds.
• Rookie guard Amani Johnson has made an impact early in her collegiate career as she has collected five Freshman of the Week awards.
• Following her career performance of 20 points and 13 rebounds against Georgia Southern, Simina Avram earned the ASUN Newcomer of the Week honors.
• Head coach Agnus Berenato, who is in her 32nd season as a Division I head coach, is in her third year leading the Owls. She has an all-time record of 466-468 (.497), and guided Kennesaw State to the ASUN Conference semifinals in 2017. 

Coach B Honored

It was announced on Wednesday (Feb. 6) that head coach Agnus Berenato was honored with the Carol Eckman Integrity in Coaching Award, which is awarded by the WBCA. The award's inception was 1986 and she joins winners such as Kay Yow, Tara Vanderveer and Lisa Blunder as recipients.

Opponent Notes
• NJIT is currently 10-11 on the season and is coming into Saturday's contest on a five-game losing streak versus Jacksonville, Stetson, North Alabama, FGCU and Liberty.
• NJIT has a pair of players that average double-digit points. The Highlanders are led by Kelly Guarino who averages 13.8 points per contest.  Danielle Tunstall is second on the team in scoring, pouring in 11.0 points per game.
• The Owls opened up ASUN play with NJIT and fell in Newark, 66-60.
• Kelly Guarino leads the conference in free-throw percentage as she shoots 85.3 percent from the stripe.
• Guarino paces the ASUN in 3-pointers made (61) and 3-pointers per game (2.9).

Jacksonville Recap
• Kennesaw State (5-16, 1-7) fell 69-53 to Jacksonville (12-11, 5-5) on Tuesday (Feb. 5) inside Swisher Gymnasium.
• The Owls had four players in double-figures (Street -14, Gianolla- 14, Poole- 13, Hoover, 10)
• Amani Johnson led the team in rebounds with six
• Alexis Poole has scored in double-figures in all ASUN contests
• The Owls shot 71.4 percent from the free-throw line
• Kennesaw State did not record a bench point

• The Owls return to Florida for a Tuesday night (Feb. 12) bout with North Florida. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Jacksonville.
