ATLANTA, Ga.- The Kennesaw State men's tennis team fell 6-1 to Georgia Tech on Friday (Feb.8) at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
"There were a lot of positives tonight," said Director of Tennis
Matt Emery. "We did a great job again of coming strong in the doubles and executing."
KSU (1-1) continued its strong play in doubles.
Gaston Muhammad and Fermin Calvo Barcelo def. Zummy Bauer and Joseph Gandolfo 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. Moments later, Lucas deTorres Curth and
Harvey Maughan beat Cole Gromley and Andrew Li 6-3 to secure the doubles point.
The Yellow Jackets (3-2) won all singles matches to secure the win.
Fermin Calvo Barcelo won the second set of his match before falling in a third set tiebreaker 7-5, 4-6, 1-0. The Owls also got strong efforts in singles from
Bryan Triana and
Harvey Maughan.
"We had some chances in a few matches that we just didn't capitalize on. A large part of that was Tech just being a very good team, especially at home indoors. I know the guys are excited about another opportunity on Sunday at Kentucky," Emery said.
The Owls return to action on Sunday (Feb.10) for a doubleheader at Kentucky at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
