Clara Aveling was tabbed ASUN Conference Women's Golfer of the Week the conference announced Thursday (Feb.7).
"This was a breakout event for Clara," said head coach
Rhyll Brinsmead "It has been exactly a year since she returned to competition from a season ending injury and what a comeback. I'm so proud of the work she has put in with Coach Croux. She has trusted his vision for her long-term swing rebuild and the results are so satisfying for all involved. She is the ultimate team player and I know her teammates will share in her excitement about being named player of the week."
Aveling helped the No. 37 Owls to a fifth place finish in a very strong field at the UCF Challenge. She posted rounds of 68-71-72 with a career-low total score of 5-under par 211 to tied for tenth. She beat 10 players that were ranked in the Golfstat top 100 individually. The redshirt-junior helped the Owls break the 54-hole scoring record on a par-72 course by seven shots. This was her eighth time finishing as the Owls top finisher in her career.
The Owls will head to Melbourne, Fla for the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb.18-19).
