Owls Set Scoring Record En Route to Fifth Place Finish at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 37 Kennesaw State women's golf team finished in fifth place after the final round at the par-72, 6,349-yard Eagle Creek Golf Club on Tuesday.

The Owls recorded an even-par total of 288  with a total at 9-under par total of 855. That total score of 855 is a new school record low on a 54-hole course and broke  the previous record by 7 shots. KSU collected wins over six teams in the top 50 of the Golfstat rankings including No. 18 Illinois, No. 29 Purdue, No. 30 Michigan State and No. 36 College of Charleston.  

"This result is a marquee moment for the program," said Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "We set a new 54-hole school record of 9 under en route to beating some of the best power 5 schools in the nation as well as other highly ranked teams. We entered this event with a very clear goal and I'm so proud of the team for trusting the process and believing in their teammates. We have proven we are among the nation's elite and I cannot wait to get back on the course with this squad."

Clara Aveling was the Owls top finisher in the tournament. She posted an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday. She finished tied for tenth with a career-low total score of 211. Aveling rolled in four birdies during her round.

"Clara once again leads the way for the team. She works tirelessly every day to perfect her game and this top 10 finish was earned," Brinsmead said.

Chloe Thornton also carded an even-par round of 72. Thornton finish tied for 15th at 3-under par 213.

Medy Thavong shot a 2-over par 74 and tied for 42nd with a three-day total of 1-over par 217.

Roanne Tomlinson fired an even-par round of 72 to finish tied for 42nd at 2-over par 218.

Charlotte Charrayre finished tied for 49th with a 3-over par total of 219 after a 72 on Tuesday.

The Owls will head to Melbourne, Fla for the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb.18-19).
