OPELIKA, Ala. – Led by senior
Wyatt Larkin, the Kennesaw State men's golf team carded a 6-over par 294 on Monday to move up one spot in the standings and is in ninth place after 36 holes of the Tiger Invitational that is being held at the par-72, 7,289-yard Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Alabama.
The Owls improved nine shots over their first round and hold a two-round score of 21-over par 598. Host and No. 10 Auburn leads the 16-team field with a 3-under par total of 573, nine shots better than No. 6 SMU (582; +6).
"We had improvement across the board today and moved up the leaderboard," head coach
Bryant Odom said. "We definitely have some momentum heading into the final round."
KSU leads the field with 118 pars, six more than South Alabama and Auburn.
Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres is tied for third in the field with 26.
Four of the five players in Kennesaw State's lineup lowered their scores from the first day, including Larkin, who posted a 1-under par 71 and is tied for third with a 1-under total of 134. Georgia State's Josh Edgar leads the individual standings with a 6-under score of 183, four shots better than Auburn's Brandon Mancheno (142; -2).
"Wyatt is playing very steady and can make a run at the medalist title tomorrow (Tuesday)," Odom said.
Torres shot a 2-over par 74 and is tied for 33rd at 5-over par 149 while junior
Connor Coffee (151; +7) is tied for 44th. Sophomore
Brady Keran shot a 4-over par 75 to improve six shots over his opening round and is tied with teammate
Grant Sutliff (156; T67). Sutliff shot a 2-over par 74, improving eight shots over his first round.
Freshman
Ryan Hines (162; +18), who is playing as an individual, also improved on his first round, bettering his first round score by six shots, and is 79th.
The final concludes Sunday with Kennesaw State grouped with Georgia State and ULM and scheduled to tee off at 8:50 a.m. (ET).
