LYNCHBURG, VA. – The Kennesaw State men's track and field team concluded action at the ASUN Conference Indoor Championship on Saturday, February 23 at the Liberty Indoor Track and Field complex. KSU finished in second place.
Team Scoring
The Owls scored 139 points in the two-day event. Liberty won the title scoring 190 points.
Combined Events
Men's Heptathlon (Final Three Events)
Scott Simpson finished fifth with 3902 points. He won the pole vault clearing 4.50m (14'8').
Williams Earns Most Valuable Performer
Junior
Paris Williams was named Most Outstanding Performer of the meet after he collected 27 points during the meet.
Williams won the 60m hurdles, was second in the long jump, fourth in both the high jump and triple jump and finished eighth in the shot put.
Medal Winners
Chuck McConville took home the gold medal winning the weight throw with a career-best toss of 18.57m (60'11").
Tyler Blalock joined him on the podium after a career-best throw of 16.53m (54'2") earned him the silver medal medal.
The Owls would take two medals in the triple jump.
Tariq Bradford was second with a jump of 14.66m (48'1.25") and
Karl Joeaar grabbed third with a mark of 14.53m (47'8").
KSU would sweep the medal stand in the 60m hurdles.
Paris Williams won the gold medal with a time of 7.93.
DJ Akindele posted a career-best time of 8.10 to take second.
Kameron Davis ran a time of 8.12 to finish third.
In the 60m,
Cameron Bolden won his third consecutive gold medal in the event in a time of 6.81 seconds. Bolden became the first ASUN athlete ever to win this event three years in a row.
Bolden returned to the track and earned the silver medal in the 200m after finishing in 21.41 just .19 seconds ahead of
Aaaron Goodwin who finished third in 21.60. Both Bolden and Goodwin posted career-best times in the event.
To close out the day, the men's 4x400 relay team of Aaron Goodwin,
Jordan Hewing,
Cameron Bolden and
Braden Canamare recorded a time of 3:17.84 to take home the bronze medal.
Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Cale McDaniel's Thoughts on the men's teams performance in the ASUN Championship on Saturday.
"I can't say enough about the way the men's team fought all weekend. We had a ton of great efforts and I am looking forward to the outdoor season."
