MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 34 Kennesaw State women's golf team concluded play at the Moon Golf Invitational on Tuesday (Feb.19) taking home eighth place at the par-72, 6,262-yard Duran Golf Club.

Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said, "This team continues to push the limits of just how good we can be. This is the fourth at par or better round of the last six we have played. In the last six rounds we are 7-under par total as a team. I really hope people comprehend just how good that is. Our scoring average for the spring only is 286 (2-under par). These five players continue to compete against and beat some of the biggest schools in the nation."

The Owls carded a 6-under par 282 in the final round to finish with a 2-over par 866. That total was the Owls second lowest of the season and was tied for the second lowest final round by any of the teams in the field.  KSU collected wins over Texas A&M, South Florida, Kansas and Michigan. UCF won the event with a three-round total of 15-under par 849.

"The performance today was a testament to our fight and passion," Brinsmead said. "To bounce back from a poor first round and shoot 6-under par coming home is huge. I'm so proud of these athletes and look forward to a small break before we head to our next event."

Chloe Thornton continued her strong play on Tuesday. The freshman posted a 3-under par round of 69 with four birdies and 13 pars. She finished tied for fifth at 5-under par 211. This is her best career-finish and her 54-hole total score tied her for the third best in school history on a par-72 course.

Roanne Tomlinson recorded a 2-under par 70 on Tuesday. The senior played her final nine holes at even par and finished tied for 13th at 3-under par total of 213.

Medy Thavong carded the Owls best round of the day. The senior fired a 5-under par 67 with seven birdies and finish tied for 37th at 6-over par 219.

Clara Aveling and Charlotte Charrayre finished tied for 63rd at 10-over par 226.

"We had contributions from all 5 players and under par finishes from Chloe and Roanne," Brinsmead said. "I'm also really excited for Medy and her 67 today. She has worked hard to get to this point. This team is good."

The Owls will head to the Hawkeye El-Tigre Invitational (Mar.21-23) in Puerto Vallerta, Mexico.
