MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 32 Kennesaw State women's golf team continued its spring season on Monday (Feb.18) with 36 holes at the Moon Golf Invitational and currently sits in 10th place.

The Owls posted a 9-over par 297 in the first round and a 1-under par 287 in the second round for a 8-over par total of 584. KSU is 15 shots behind No. 30 Louisville and UCF, who lead the 16-team field at the par-72, 6,262-yard Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla.

"A 36-hole day is one of the toughest mental and physical challenges any college athlete can take on," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "We were on the course for over 10 hours, walking back to back rounds. The fact the team bounced back from a poor morning round to be one of only five teams to shoot under par in the afternoon speaks volumes to this teams "never die" attitude. Props must be given to Chloe. She led the team today and set an example of fighting for every shot. We're only four shots back of sixth place and I know we are capable of making a big move tomorrow."

Chloe Thornton led the Owls on day one of the event. She made two birdies and 14 pars in route to an even-par 72 in the first round. The freshman rolled in four birdies and shot a 2-under par 70 in round two. She is tied for ninth with a 2-under par total of 142.

Right behind Thornton is Roanne Tomlinson. Tomlinson carded an even-par 72 in the first round and a 1-under par 71 in the second round. The senior made seven birdies and 25 pars in her opening 36 holes. She is tied for 12th at 1-under par 143.

After an opening round 76, Clara Aveling fired a 1-over par 73 with 16 pars to close out the day. The redshirt-junior is tied for 54th at 5-over par 149.

Charlotte Charrayre collected 23 pars on Monday. She posted rounds of 5-over par 77 and 1-over par 73 and is tied for 58th at 6-over par 150.

Medy Thavong is tied for 68th after rounds 77-75 for an 8-over par total of 152.

The Owls conclude play on Tuesday (Feb.19) with final-round action beginning at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Kennesaw State will be paired with Minnesota and Notre Dame.
