CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Sophomore
Lexi Solorzano continued her recent power display, homering in both games as the Kennesaw State softball team recorded a split Saturday during the second day of the Chattanooga Challenge.
Â
After a spirited rally came up just short in a 10-8 loss to Dayton to begin the day, the Owls (2-7) came back to defeat Chattanooga, 7-0, behind the solid pitching of senior
Hailey Andrews.
Â
Solorzano, who got off to a slow start at the plate to begin the season, has put on a power display this weekend, homering in all four games. The KSU junior homered in her final at-bat versus Dayton and clubbed her fourth round tripper of the season in her first plate appearance versus Chattanooga.
Â
CHATTANOOGA RECAP
Andrews (1-4) turned in the most impressive performance in the circle by an Owls' pitcher this season after recording a career-high tying nine strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
Â
Freshman
Taylor Cates produced the first multiple-hit game of her career as she went 2-for-4 with a two-run double.
Â
DAYTON RECAP
Trailing 9-1 with two outs in the fifth inning,
Raleigh Williams, who had two hits, reached on an infield single and
Maddie Roth and
Kira Czyrklis followed with back-to-back home runs to cut the deficit to 9-4.
Â
Dayton (4-4) scored a run in the top of the sixth to extend its lead to 10-4, before the Owls rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning, cutting the Flyers' lead to 10-7. Solorzano made it a two-run game with a leadoff home run in the seventh.
