KENNESAW, Ga. – After taking a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Kennesaw State softball team ran into a buzz saw in the top of the sixth as Chattanooga sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 13 runs to break open a close game and went to record a 15-4 victory over the Owls in the final game of the Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament Sunday at Bailey Park.
Kennesaw State (1-4) had rallied from 2-0 deficit, scoring single runs in the second and third inning to tie the game. The Owls took advantage of a leadoff walk to
Hannah Thomason and an error to score the go-ahead run with two hits in the bottom of the fifth.
Thomason had a productive day at the plate as she went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a pair of walks as she reached base in three of her four plate appearances. Senior
Jessie Mullen had two hits and pair of RBIs for the Owls.
NOTEWORTHY
- Senior Kira Czyrklis has a solid opening weekend as she batted .500 (7-for-14) with a run scored and three RBIs. Four of her seven hits went for extra bases as she collected three doubles and a triple.
- Senior Maddie Roth went 8-for-14 (.471) with a team-high four runs scored, homered and totaled three RBIs in five games
UP NEXT
Kennesaw State continues early-season tournament action next weekend when it competes in the Chattanooga Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Owls open play Friday when they take on Tennessee Tech at 11 a.m. (ET).
