KSU Returns To The Court Against Middle Georgia State

KENNESAW, Ga.- After time off for Christmas since Dec. 20, the Owls look to stop a two-game skid against Middle Georgia State tomorrow (Dec. 31) at 1 p.m. inside the KSU Convocation Center.

Top Storylines

• The Owls return to the hardwood for first time since Dec. 20 against Duquesne, a  homecoming for four Owls. The break was the second-longest break of the season. 

• Kennesaw State put up an incredible effort against Duquesne, but fell short, 75-72. The Owls had the ball down two points with four seconds remaining, but were unable to tie up the game on their last possession. 

• The Owls have been among the nation's best in field goal percentage this season. So far, KSU has shot 42.9 percent from the floor, which ranks first in the ASUN and 79th in the nation. 

• It has been a tale of two halves for the Owls this season. Starting hot has been a trend for KSU, as the Owls have outscored foes 365-340, but in the second half, the Owls find themselves in a 311-286 hole.

Alexis Poole has been incredible so far this season for Kennesaw State. She ranks 37th in the country in double-doubles with five in 10 games. She has already collected an ASUN Player of the Week award, which came after week one of the season. 

• One of the Owls' keys to victory this season has been rebounding the basketball. When Kennesaw State out-rebounds opponents, the Owls are 4-0 so far this season.

• The Owls are trying to pick up their sixth win of the season this afternoon, Dec. 31. Last season, it took until Feb. 9 for Kennesaw State to pick up its sixth win of the season. 

Amani Johnson has displayed incredible vision this season for the Owls. The sophomore ranks first in the ASUN in assists per game (4.0), which ranks 123rd in the country. 

• A trend that continues from last season, Amani Johnson rarely gets taken off the court. This season, she is averaging 38:52 minutes per contest, which ranks fourth in the country.

• During the summer, it was announced that the Owls were ranked No. 20 in the WBCA Academic rankings. The Owls were the sole program in the ASUN to receive the honor as well as the only program in the state of Georgia to be recognized on the list. KSU ended the season with a 3.54 GPA.

Noting Middle Georgia State
 

• Middle Georgia State is off to a hot 5-3 start so far in 2019, and is looking for back-to-back wins after beating Carver Bible 79-55 on Dec. 4.

• This afternoon's game is the Knights only NCAA D1 game this season. 

• The Knights have struggled on the road this season, posting just a 1-3 record away from their home court. They are very good at home, though, and have won each of their four contests.

• Middle Georgia State is led by Joy Sadler, who is avergaing over 16 points per game this season. She has recorded four games with 20-plus points.
