KENNESAW, Ga. – The Owls opened the season with a 77-41 win against Thomas University in an exhibition inside the KSU Convocation Center.
Gillan Piccolino started off strong in the first quarter with a three pointer for the Owls in the first two minutes. The Owls held the lead for most of the first quarter and went into the second quarter with a four-point lead against Thomas (14-10).
Lexi Mann was unstoppable in the second quarter with 10 points for the Owls and six rebounds.
Amani Johnson had four assists in the first half. Piccolino was 4-for-6 in three-point shots and had 13 points, leading the Owls in scoring at the end of the second quarter. Kennesaw State outscored Thomas 32-10 in the second frame and went into the half on top, 46-20.
The Owls continued to stretch their lead in the third quarter against the Night Hawks.
Alexis Poole was impressive in the second half, as she collected 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mann had seven rebounds and 10 points for the Owls at the end of the third quarter. The Owls had seven fouls against the Night Hawks in the third quarter. The Owls had a 30-point lead going into the fourth quarter (60-30).
Poole showed her skills in the fourth quarter helping the Owls maintain their advantage as she ended with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Johnson led the team with five assists.
The Owls took advantage of the Night Hawk's turnovers and turned 23 turnovers into 34 points.
The Owls hit the road to Athens, Ga. to take on Georgia on Thursday (Nov. 7) to start the regular season.
