KENNESAW, Ga. –
Katie Meyer and
Rachel Van Amburgh of the Kennesaw State cross country team have been named to the ASUN All-Academic team, the league announced on Wednesday (Nov. 13).
"For us to have two young ladies earn All-Academic is a tremendous accomplishment," Head Coach
Adam Bray said. "Rachel and Katie are excellent students as well as great athletes. We are very lucky to have them as a part of our program. They embody what it means to be a student-athlete."
Meyer has a 4.0 GPA in Environmental Engineering. She was the Owls top finisher in four races this season. The junior ran the top 4K time in program history (14:16.0) at the Bulldog Invitational to finish 16
th. She finished 55th at the Commodore Classic in 22:36.9, was 42nd at the Louisville Classic (17:48.6) and 24th at the Blazer Classic (21:22.77). The Roswell, Ga. native finished 15th at the ASUN Championship in a time of 18:03.43.
Van Amburgh holds a 4.0 GPA in Exercise Science. She finished 23rd at the Bulldog Invitational with a time of 14:36.33. That time was the third fastest 4K time in program history. The senior was 116th at the Commodore Classic with a time of 23:28.6 and finished 23rd at the ASUN Championships in a time of 19:35.88.
This duo helped lead KSU to a third place finish at the ASUN Championships, the team's best finish since the ASUN Championships since 2009.
Meyer and Van Amburgh are the first Owls to land on ASUN All-Academic team since
Claire Bohrer in 2014.
The Owls return to action on Friday, Nov. 15 at the NCAA South Regionals at Florida State University.
