Student-Athletes Celebrate 2018 With Annual Owls Choice Awards

KENNESAW, Ga. – 
The student-athletes at Kennesaw State held their annual Owls Choice Awards banquet on Sunday night at the KSU Convocation Center, celebrating the accomplishments of the 2018 calendar year.
 
Men's track & field's Dayo Akindele collected the Male Player of the Year, while women's track & field's Jocselyn Powell was named Female Athlete of the Year.
 
Akindele was named ASUN Conference Championships Meet Most Outstanding Performer and ASUN Conference First Team All-Conference (long jump, triple jump and 60m hurdles) in indoor track. In outdoor track, he set the school record in the 100m hurdles and was ASUN Second-Team All-Conference in the long jump. Akindele helped the Owls win both the ASUN Indoor and Outdoor Conference Championships.
 
Powell earned ASUN First Team All-Conference honors in the 60m Hurdles in indoor track. She was named a NSCA All-American, ASUN Conference First Team All-Conference (100m hurdles, 400m hurdles), ASUN Conference Second Team All-Conference (4x100m relay, 4x400m relay) and finished the regular season ranked 13th nationally in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.28. She helped lead the Owls to ASUN Outdoor Championship Title.
 
In addition to the individual awards, 2018 conference championship teams were recognized, as softball, women's golf, football, men's and women's outdoor track & field and men's indoor track & field were all honored for championships in the last year.
 
The awards were nominated and voted on by members of the KSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

(presented to the male and female student-athletes who put forth the best effort in the weight room; selected by the Owls' strength & conditioning staff)

Jake McKenzie, football

Wise Owl Award
(presented to the male and female student-athletes with the highest cumulative GPA)
Medy Thavong, women's golf
Chandler Burks, football and Lucas de Torres Curth, men's tennis

Game Face Award
(presented to male and female student athletes that exhibited the best "game face" in competition)
Morgan Harrison, women's soccer
Drew Lahey, men's tennis

Best Dressed Award
Madeline Johnson, volleyball
Karl Jõeäär, men's track and field
