LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kennesaw State women's tennis team opened the 2019 season with a 7-0 setback at Kentucky on Wednesday (Jan.16).
Kentucky (2-0) won three doubles matches and came out on top in each of the six singles contests.
In singles action, the Owls got a strong effort from
Brenna Reilly. The junior won her first set 6-3, before dropping a pair of tight sets.
Tonight marked the debuts of
Juliana Castellanos,
Lara Mehlsam,
Kendall Nash and
Zoe Wende in Owl uniforms.
"I was really pleased with both our play and effort tonight," Director of Tennis
Matt Emery said. "UK is a Top 15 program and one of the best teams in the country. Playing four freshmen in their first ever college match indoors is not an easy task but Kirsten and I loved how they competed with no fear. It was great to see them having a blast competing out there. Everyone is excited to get right back to work tomorrow and get ready for Arkansas at home on Friday."
The Owls host Arkansas for a doubleheader at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the Betty Siegel Courts at KSU on Friday, January 18. Admission is free to all home matches.
