Paris Williams and
DJ Akindele collected ASUN Track, Field and Freshman of the Week awards the conference announced on Wednesday (Jan.16). The trio of Owls were recognized for their strong performances at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational over the weekend.
Jordan Gray was named ASUN Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Gray won the long jump with a leap of 6.45 (21'2). That jump broke the school record and ranks No.1 in the NCAA and No.2 in the world currently. She also collected a win in the shot put with a career-best toss of 13.94m (45'9). That throw ranks third-best in the ASUN this season. The redshirt senior grabbed second in the high jump clearing 1.63m (5'4.25). She was named Most Valuable Field Performer of the Meet. This is her third ASUN Field Athlete of the Week award.
Paris Williams collected the ASUN Men's Track Athlete of the Week award. Williams finished runner-up in the 60m hurdles with a career-best time of 7.92. That time ranks first in the ASUN and is tied for 25
th in the NCAA this season. This is his first career ASUN Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award.
DJ Akindele earned the ASUN Men's Freshman Athlete of the Week award. He took third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.18. That time is the second fastest in the ASUN this season. He posted a time of 52.41 to finish 19
th in the 400m.
The Owls will head to Birmingham, Alabama for a trio of meets hosted by Samford University on January 17-19 at the Birmingham Crossplex.
