ROCKY FACE, Ga. – Senior Jake Fendt shot an even-par 72 to lead the Kennesaw State men's golf team during Saturday's second round of the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate at the par-72, 7,178-yard The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga.

Fendt's performance led the Owls (588, +12) to a 12-over 300 score and tied with LSU for 10th place after 36 holes of the 15-team event that includes 12 teams which finished the 2017-18 season in Golfstat's Top 50 final rankings.

Host and ninth-ranked Georgia Tech and Tennessee share the lead at 20-under par 556, two-shots in front of third-place and No. 11 Alabama (558, -18), which carded an 18-under par 270 for the low round of the day.

"Today was one of those rounds where we made the turn in decent shape but really lost momentum on the back with some shots out of position," head coach Bryant Odom said. "It is impossible to score on this course when you get on the wrong side of the hole, and we found ourselves fighting from those spots today.

"A comeback round tomorrow will give us a very respectable finish in this field, and this team is hungry for another chance tomorrow," Odom added.

Fendt posted a bogey-free even-par 36 on his front nine before recording three birdies, a bogey and double-bogey on his inward nine to finish 36 holes at 1-under par 143 and tied for 15th.

Senior Pablo Rodriguez-Tabernero Torres, who opened the tournament with a 2-under par 70 on Friday, shot a 5-over par 77 Saturday and is tied for 35th at 3-over par 147. Senior Wyatt Larkin (148, +4) is tied for 41st, while junior Connor Coffee (150, +6) is tied for 54th, and redshirt freshman Grant Sutliff (161, +17), who is making his collegiate debut this weekend, is 79th.

Georgia Tech's Tyler Strafaci and Jake Meenhorst of Tennessee are tied atop the individual standings at 9-under par 135. Both players are two shots ahead of Alabama's Davis Riley and Tennessee's Brayden Garrison, who are tied for third at 7-under par 137.

The Carpet Capital Collegiate continues Saturday with Kennesaw State scheduled to tee off at 9:27 a.m. and is grouped with Chattanooga and LSU. All the action can be followed live at www.golfstatresults.com.
