CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Kennesaw State cross country teams returned to action on Friday, Sept. 28th at the Queen City Invite.
 
In the women's 5k, the Owls grabbed eighth place. Brenda Ayuk led the way for Owls for the third consecutive meet finishing fourth in 17:39. Cailyn Farrell secured 21st in a time of 18:18.00. Katie Meyer finished in a time of 18:31 to grab 33rd. Regan Poteet (19:32) and Sarah Hendrick (19:46) rounded out the scoring for the Owls finishing 91st and 97th respectively. Brooke Aumer took home 114th in 20:07, while Gwen Setlock was 138th in a time of 20:49. Alexandria Stevens (156; 21:15) , Alicia Johnson (167; 21:28) and Alice Mercier (187; 22:13) also competed for the Owls on Friday.
 
Chase Kennedy led the way for the KSU men for the third straight meet in the men's 8k race. Kennedy posted a time of 25:19 to finish 17th.  Mekhi Williams made his KSU debut on Friday evening finishing 53rd in 26:22. He was followed closely by Koi Williams who took 58th place in a time of 26:32. Austin Muse (27:03) and Stephen Pipes (27:21) rounded out the scoring for the Owls finishing 76th and 86th respectively. The men secured eighth as a team.

 "We couldn't have had much better of a day for both the women's and men's teams. So many improved performances. This was a meet that I wanted to use as a marker of how or if the runners are improving. They improved today. While this was a flat course, it was humid and still pretty hot. So the fatigue factor was still there. Now we go to more hill work as we lead up to conference."
 
On the women's team
 
"Brenda ran a tremendous race in placing 4th with a 17:39.  By going out strong then pushing the second mile, results were as hoped the same goes for Caitlyn with her 18:18. Katie dropping to 18:31 was great. There's so much more I could point out."
 
 
On the men's team
 
"The men were lead by Chase with a 25:19. Having Mekhi back was huge, and he ran an excellent race. Koi ran strong, and Austin and Stephen showed a lot more with improved performances." 
 
 
Notes
- The Queen City Invite was the Owls third meet of 2018.
 
- Today marked the third time that Ayuk and Kennedy have been the Owls top finishers in a meet.
 
- Mekhi Williams made his KSU debut on Friday evening.
 
Next Up
The Owls will travel to Mount Berry, Georgia for the Berry Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.
