USTFCCCA Men's All-Academic Teams Release | USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Individual Release
KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State men's and women's track and field team were named a USTFCCCA 2018 Division I All-Academic Team for carrying a 3.02 and 3.05 GPA through the 2017-18 academic year.
The teams were not only strong in the classroom but also were solid on the track as the men took first place at the Indoor and Outdoor ASUN Championships, while the women took first place at the ASUN Outdoor Championships.
Individually,
Jordan Gray,
Julija Tarvide and
Jocselyn Powell of the women's team earned USTFCCCA 2018 Division I All-Academic honors.
Gray carries a 3.70 GPA majoring in integrative studies. During the indoor season, she set the school record in the pentathlon with a total of 4,221 points at the Carol Robinson Winter Pentathlon. She also set the school record in the pentathlon long jump with a leap of 6.07m (19'11.0) and the 800m with a time of 2:22.80. The Ball Ground, Ga. native also had top-10 performances in the pentathlon in the 60m hurdles, high jump and shot put. Her performance in the pentathlon at the Carol Robinson Winter Pentathlon ranked sixth nationally at the end of the indoor season.
Powell clasps a 3.33 GPA in human services. She recently wrapped up her Owl career as one of the top hurdlers in program history. In her final outdoor season, Powell collected seven top-three finishes in the 100m and 400m hurdles. She set the school record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.23 at the ASUN Outdoor Championships. She posted a time of 57.28 in the 400m hurdles at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays to establish a new school record. The Canal Winchester, Ohio native collected four medals at the ASUN Outdoor Championships as she was victorious in the 100m and 400m hurdles and was runner-up in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. She finished 14
th at the NCAA Championships East Preliminaries in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.94.
Tarvide has a 3.75 GPA in political science. She won the high jump at Florida Relays with a leap of 1.75m (5'8.75) in which she qualified for the NCAA Championship East Preliminary. She took home second in the high jump at the Winthrop Adidas Invitational with a clearance of 1.69m (5'6.5). The sophomore finished third at the Yellow Jacket Invitational with a leap of 1.70m (5'7). The native of Daugavpils, Latvia finished 43
rd at the NCAA East Prelim with a leap of 1.65m (5'5).
