KENNESAW, Ga. – Fourth-year head coach
Bryant Odom announced the 2018-19 Kennesaw State men's golf schedule on Thursday (July 26).
Coming off an eighth straight NCAA Regional appearance, the Owls will once again play a challenging schedule in 2018-19.
The fall season opens at the familiar Carpet Capital Collegiate hosted by Georgia Tech at The Farm Golf Club in Dalton, Ga., Sept. 7-9, and marks one of nine events on the upcoming schedule that Kennesaw State participated in during the 2017-18 campaign.
"We have a great schedule for this upcoming season and are fortunate that we compete in some of the best events in the nation without traveling far from Kennesaw," Odom said. "More importantly, we have all the starters from the NCAA Regional returning and three incoming freshmen hungry for their chance in the lineup.
"There's a sense of unfinished business after this past spring and competing in the same events will add a level of confidence each week.," Odom added "Our players have had highly competitive summers contending in state and national events and I know they are eager for the team atmosphere once again."
The Owls will also return to the Graeme McDowell Shoal Creek Invitational (UAB) Sept. 24-25, Franklin Mortgage Intercollegiate (Middle Tennessee) Oct. 7-9, Steelwood Collegiate Invitational (South Alabama) Oct. 27-28, Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate (South Alabama) Feb. 11-12, Tiger Invitational (Auburn) Feb. 24-26, and the Southern Intercollegiate (Georgia) April 15.
"The fall is highlighted with some very strong fields in the first two events, including a return to Shoal Creek Golf Club in Birmingham (Alabama), which hosted the U.S. Women's Open this summer," Odom said. "We host the Pinetree Intercollegiate here in our backyard and close out the (fall) season at Steelwood, where we have won and finished second in our previous two trips."
KSU will host the Pinetree Intercollegiate for the seventh straight year at nearby Pinetree Country Club October 22 and 23, and co-host with Mercer the Linger Longer Invitational at The Landing Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee March 15-17.
"In the spring, we start a little earlier with two events in February before hosting the Linger Longer," Odom said. "We will tune up for the ASUN Conference Championships by returning to the Irish Creek Intercollegiate and the Southern Intercollegiate, which has moved to mid-April."
The Owls return to the Irish Creek Intercollegiate (Charlotte/Davidson) for the first time since the spring of 2017. The tournament is scheduled for April 6-7 at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C.
The ASUN Conference Championships return to Chateau Elan Legends Course in Braselton, Ga., and is slated for April 21-23.
The NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 12-15 with Coastal Carolina, Georgia, Iowa State, Louisville, Stanford and Washington State serving as hosts. Arkansas will be the host institution for the NCAA Championships slated for May 24-29 at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark.
"Overall, the strength of this schedule combined with solid play throughout the course of the season will reward us with a solid national ranking as we set our sights on NCAA postseason play," Odom said.
Kennesaw State returns its entire roster from a year ago and will welcome two freshmen (
Rob Howard,
Conner Rostowsky) to the team, while redshirt freshmen
Justin Kim and
Grant Sutliff will make their collegiate debuts in 2018-19. The Owls concluded the 2017-18 season ranked No. 59 nationally by Golfstat and No. 62 by
Golfweek.
